Why your business needs a website, even a small one

Most small businesses here get found in one of two ways. Someone recommends you, or someone searches for you. The recommendation gets your name across. What happens next is usually a search, and that search decides whether the person calls you or the next name on the list.

We hear the same thing from clients before we start: "I already have a Facebook page, do I really need a website?" Fair question. A Facebook page tells people you exist. A website tells them you are serious.

Three questions a customer asks before they contact you

What do you do. Where are you. How do I reach you.

That is the whole job of a one-page site. When those answers are hard to find, people do not phone to ask, they just move on. You never hear about the customer you lost, which is why it is easy to believe you are not losing any.

What changes on the day it goes live

A few things, and they are practical rather than glamorous.

The email address matters more than people expect

This is the part clients come back and thank us for. An address like info@yourbusiness.co.za reads like a business with staff and a filing system behind it. A personal gmail address reads like a side hustle, whether that is fair or not. When you are quoting against two other companies, small signals like that decide things.

Keep it honest, not fancy

The sites that work for small businesses are the plain ones. Real photos of your actual work, prices if you are comfortable showing them, a phone number that someone answers, and copy that sounds like you speak. No stock photos of people in suits shaking hands in an office that is not yours.

Start smaller than you think you need to

Almost nobody needs the ten-page site they imagine at the start. One page, done properly, gets you found and gets you calls. Our 1-Page Digital Card is R500 once-off and goes up in about two days because of that. When the business genuinely outgrows it, you add pages then, with a year of knowing what your customers actually ask about.

Questions we get asked most

How much does a website cost in South Africa? It ranges widely. Our 1-Page Digital Card is R500 once-off with a business email included. A multi-page site as part of the Launcher Bundle, which also covers your CIPC registration and your first month of books, is R5,000. Agencies in the bigger cities will quote you considerably more, and for a small business the extra spend rarely changes the outcome.

Do I need a website if I have a Facebook page? A Facebook page shows people you exist. A website is where you control what is said, how it looks, and what happens when someone searches your name. The two work together: most of our clients keep posting on Facebook and send people to the site when it is time to be taken seriously.

How long does it take to build? A single page can be live in about 48 hours once we have your content and you have approved the quote. Bigger builds we scope with you upfront so there are no surprises.

Will people actually find me on Google? Being findable takes two things: a site Google can read, and a Google Business Profile with your real address, hours and photos. We set the site up correctly for search, and we will tell you how to claim the profile if you have not already.

Do I own the website afterwards? Yes. The domain, the site and the email accounts belong to you. We do not hold your business hostage.

If you are sitting on the decision, send us a WhatsApp and tell us what your business does. We will tell you honestly whether you need one page or five.
